SDG 9 - INDUSTRY, INNOVATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE

BUILD RESILIENT INFRASTRUCTURE, PROMOTE INCLUSIVE AND SUSTAINABLE INDUSTRIALIZATION AND FOSTER INNOVATION

Insufficient infrastructure constitute a major challenge in many developing countries. A well-developed infrastructure is key to industrialization, market access, job creation, information, education and training. Danish consulting engineers work with both national and local governments to develop quality, reliable and sustainable railways, harbours, roads, bridges, etc., to support economic development and human well-being. Danish consulting engineers also assist both national and local governments with infrastructure related capacity building, for instance addressing road maintenance and road safety.

PROJECT: MOZAMBIQUE – ROAD MAINTENANCE TRAINING

In Mozambique, NTU provided road industry training
for local SMEs. The purpose was to enable local SMEs
to bid on and handle road sector projects in the future, and thereby eliminate the need for foreign contractors. NTU designed a training programme focused on procurement and the theoretical and practical aspects of road development and road maintenance. NTU’s team also designed future training programmes targeting road development in rural areas, as well as programmes designed especially for the training of new trainers.
By providing capacity building to local stakeholders and thereby enabling them to build and maintain road infrastructure, this project was a crucial step towards combating poverty in rural areas of Mozambique.
